The Lady of The Brook.....

I walked along a lonely road,
In solitude with my thoughts behold,
Whence I came upon a mellow brook,
And now begins the chapter from an open book.

Twas as pretty as a lily in May,
And as silent as the hunted prey.
With tiny ripples flowing on its surface,
Like little pearls rolling across lace;

All at once, I spot a woman.
Her face told a thousand tales,
Of joy, of sadness, of love, of loneliness, of pain,
Yet, was as appealing as the summer rain.

Her eyes burnt through me,
Like hot embers through paper,
Her smile set the land alight,
Like the stars on a moonless night.

Her skin was flawless, soft and pale,
Like the freshly woven Indian Silk, on sale,
Her hair was long and dark,
Mesmerizing you, like the melody of a singing lark.

She moved as fleet as a gazelle,
Yet with the grace of a swan,
Her poise made me wonder,
Does the world exist beyond ‘er;

I ran after her, to woo the lady over,
But before I reached yonder, the brook swallowed her under.
I feared her drowned, but could see no sign of Madame or her struggle,
Was it all a dream, a figment of my imagination?

Who was this woman,
Who reminded me of desires best forgotten,
Who could make me feel,
Like I had died and gone to Heaven.
Arousing an ecstasy, of lust, and of pleasure,
The heights of which could have no measure,
Who awoke a fiery passion within me,
That noone but she could fulfill.

I asked the fairy of the woods, about her,
She who set my soul on fire,
She replied, " O stranger, woe begotten be you,
Have you set your sights upon that lass?
She be the lady of the brook,
Any man who sets his sights upon her,
Fills with such desire,
His life becomes as useless as a funeral pyre.
She belongs to no man, nor will ever be,
She belongs to the brook that you so much admire”.

Alas, my fairy, your warning comes too late,
For I have already resigned myself to my fate,
To an eternity of misery, and despair,
In search of the nectar, that doth not exist.

And in the meanwhile,
I roam the woods,
Whispering to any passerby,
"Beware, O stranger,
Fall you not,for the one they call,
‘The Lady of The Brook’ ".
