The light A Cynic sees.

I look across the Horizon,
What do I see?
I see death and destruction,
I see hunger and poverty,I see sadness, but no joy,
But wait....I see a light,
A light so tiny, yet so bright;
I ask my creator,
what is that, which I see,
He tells me, it is a Childs laughter,
A mother’s care,
A wife's love,
A husband’s commitment,
A loved ones honesty;
I smile and the light grows larger.
Then I remind myself,
there is no creator,
There is no reason for my joy,
There is no proof behind my smile,
And as the doubts in my mind increase,
So does the light decrease,
And as I watch, the light extinguishes;
I look on horrified as the things,
I cherish most, slowly die away;
Soon realization dawns upon me,
That twas not the devil that cursed me,
Nay, it was my very own cynicism,
That destroys my life to this day.
